Akshith Reddy Bhandra at Beach State Park shore

Akshith Reddy Bhandra, a Telugu-origin student, drowned in Lake Michigan while swimming near the Beach State Park shore.

According to the report, Akshith was swimming with his friends at Illinois Beach State Park near Zion when he went underwater and never resurfaced.

The incident happened around 8 pm and the rescue teams began to search at about 8:10 pm.

Divers from the Beach Park and Zion fire departments entered the water and commenced a surface scan at the last seen point.

They were able to find Akshith at around 10 pm.

He was taken to Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan, where he was pronounced dead.
