Andrew and his father Douglas were drowned in Lake Huron at Bayfield River around 8 pm. According to police reports, Andrew who was just 5 years old was walking along the shore about knee-deep in water when a wave broke and washed him away. His father Douglas (48) was not a good swimmer but still, he manages to reach his son and called out his daughter to go and get some help.
His daughter ran about 500 meters and called someone at the marina to ask for help, whereas someone called 911 immediately. His daughter then went to her mother who was at the cottage and both went to the shore to see their father’s body was floating lifeless in the water. But the boy’s body was nowhere to be seen. The mother and daughter tried to drag the body to the shore but to no avail. Since then the help arrived and the crew members bring the body to the shore. Immediate CPR was performed but unable to save him.
About 18 firefighters and police members surrounded the area to found Andrew’s body when after 2 and half hours they were able to locate the boy’s body. He was immediately taken to nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly.
