Douglas Tolle at Washington Park Beach

Douglas Tolle was 56 years old when he lost his life while doing Kite Surfing in Lake Michigan. The police said that they were called to the scene at about 5:23 pm when it is reported that a man was nearly drowning during learning kite surfing.

The DNR reported that Tolle was participating in the Kite Surfing lessons when for some unknown reason he started to struggle. He was unconscious by the time other surfers reached him.

He was brought to the shore and some life-saving measures were performed on him. He was then taken to Franciscan Health Michigan City hospital in critical condition where he lost his life just shortly before 1 pm on Monday.
