James McComb was 20 years old when he was drowned in Port Austin Monday afternoon while doing fishing. According to the police reports, James and his friend Christoph J. Hathaway was doing fishing around 4 pm on the northwest side of the Port Austin Harbor break wall when their net become snagged on something beneath the water. In order to free the net, James climbed the ladder and jump into the water but was washed away by the waves.
His friend Hathaway tried to help him but was also taken by the waves but he managed to climb the wall ladder and was saved. The US Coast guard enter the scene about 5:15 pm and was able to locate James’ body with a pole five- to nine-foot-deep water.
