John Nousaine at Isle Royale National Park

John Nousaine was 70 years old when he lost his life doing scuba diving at Isle Royale National Park.

The incident happened around 1 pm when John dived towards the wreckage of the Emperor, a 525-foot steel bulk freighter that sank in 1947.

The wreckage was about 100-150 feet deep.

The divers on the private diving boat quickly reported the incident.

NPS and the Keweenaw County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the cause of John’s death, as there has been no incident in the past 10 years in that area.
