Luke Laidley at Centennial Park Beach

Luke Laidley was 43 years old when he lost his life while trying to save children who fell off the tube.

The children were reportedly wearing the life jackets crying for help when from a passerby boat Luke jumped in and tried to save them.

In this effort, he himself went underwater for about a minute and his friend pulled him to the boat and began CPR before coming to the shore.

From there Winnetka First responders took him over and continued performing CPR and took him to a hospital in Evanston in a very serious condition.

He was later pronounced dead at about 4 p.m.
