Matthew “Mateo” Garcia at Waukegan’s lakefront

Matthew “Mateo” Garcia was just 16 years old when drowned in Lake Michigan while trying to save his friend. The report says that Garcia was walking with his two friends on the breakwall on the south side of the swimming area at Waukegan’s lakefront when his friend fell into the water. Garcia jumped after him to save him but the current took him away. The third friend called 911 for help and the second friend was eventually saved but Garcia lost his life.
