Peter Lekas at Oak Street Beach

Peter Lekas was 20 years old when he was drowned in Lake Michigan near Oak Street Beach. According to the Police reports, he was walking with friends at about 1:40 am when he jumped into the water. His friends called 911 for help. The Marine unit was able to locate the man quickly and transported him to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in critical condition. It is unclear why the man jumped into the water but according to the police he was drunk at the time of jump. Peter died hours later that day.
